G-Star Organic Raw
Dutch company, G-Star is now entering the over-saturated market of organic cotton denim. I’m not really a fan of these jeans but If adding suspenders wasn’t enough they also adding an organic screen-print with a organic label on back section of the denim. It’s neat to see all these companies adopt the organic cotton trend but the realy question is how many of these companies are actually doing it to help rather than follow a fashion trend.

100% Organic Cotton

The Water Print Network estimates on a global average it takes approximately 11,000 litres of water to produce 1 kilogram cotton textile; of that approximately 3500 litres of water is used to produce one pair of jeans, according to Michael Kobori, V.P. of Levi-Strauss. 3500 litres included the water needed for cotton growth, milling it into denim and pre-washes.

Cotton contributes to *11% of the world’s pesticides, most of them deadly to birds and marine life. Stating the use of 100% organic cotton means a commitment to the production of both sustainable and pesticide free cotton.

Average Joe Dry Selvage by Nudie
Described with standard selvage feature and with 100% organic cotton “blended into normal production”. Any one getting the feeling they’re getting fucked with those last 4 words. One of those things you can’t sit on the fence on, unless you’re there just for the name.
